Going The Distance

The OHS girls cross country team has had an impressive season these past three months. After weeks of practices and competitions the top ten girls from the team ran in the County Championship Meet on Saturday October 29th. Oceanside Girls Varsity Cross Country placed 5th in the county, an impressive improvement from last year’s 13th place. Christina Moran, junior captain, achieved All-Conference status along with sophomores Nikki and Andria Scaglione who are All-County selections.

After the County Championship the top seven varsity girls moved onto the NY State Qualifying Meet on November 5th in hopes of potentially running in the NY State Championship Meet. Josena Joseph, a junior member of the team is proud of what they’ve all accomplished, “We put in the work and we’re seeing the results every year.  We’re the best we’ve been in a long time”  Christina Moran was quick to add that the team is improving and she herself is extremely “eX-Cited”.

image2For Andria Scaglione the season continued. She qualified to run in the NY State Cross Country Championship after running a 5k (3.1 miles), in just 19 minutes and 40 seconds! This also etched her name into the history books here at OHS as that is the fastest female time in school history. Congratulations to Andria who had a successful race, and will hopefully continue on her path to have a strong winter track season as well.
