Homecoming 2015

It was a sunny and temperate afternoon on Saturday, October 10th; a picture perfect day to play some football. Oceanside High School’s homecoming is always an event to look forward to. From the beloved homecoming parade to the game itself, there is always something to do on this eventful day.

This year’s homecoming game against Syosset High School was sure to be a good one. With our team being undefeated so far this season, the stands were packed with people on the edge of their seats. The student section, section 309, was completely full! So full that security guards had to begin denying entrance to some students. So, those students, parents, and children began piling in on the sides of the bleachers, lining up against the fence with their faces glued to the field. Our beloved Sailors pummeled the Syosset Braves by a jaw-dropping score of 48-14 preserving our undefeated season.

As you walked towards the bleachers to grab a seat, a sea of tables covered in Sailors’ merchandise lined the path. If you got a little chilly, there was no need to worry. You could just buy yourself your very own Sailors sweatshirt! Not only would you be warm, but you would also be representing the town! And that’s not all they had for sale. Every article of clothing you could think of was on one of those tables donned with blue and white. Scarves, hats, long sleeves, short sleeves, pajama pants, even stickers for your car and wallet cases for your phone! At this point, you have no real reason to not represent the sailors. And how could we forget the halftime show? Everyone knows and loves the Oceanside Varsity Dance Team, Junior Varsity Cheer, and Varsity Cheer Team! Not only do they lighten up the tense atmosphere of the football game, but it’s a chance to see the true talent of some of our fellow classmates and students.

Overall, Oceanside’s homecoming is a must see. From the classic game of football to the barbecue and the parade, it’s the most authentic experience you can get in good old Oceanside.
