In search of a trip to the Nassau Class AA girls’ basketball championship, Oceanside took an important step on their Senior Night with a much-needed home victory over Massapequa (57-48) in a pivotal Conference AA-I game.
Sophomore forward Katie Morgan scored the Lady Sailors’ three 3-pointers as part of a eleven point performance, and freshman guard Jamie Behar added twenty-two points. With the Lady Sailors’ outstanding performance, Assistant Coach Harvey Peiser states that this is the first time the Oceanside Girls Basketball team has beat Massapequa in over twenty years.
Moving on from their win against Massapequa, the sailors have a tough road ahead on their way to the AA-I County Championship. As the tenth seed in the conference there will be no easy games, starting with their first playoff game this Friday in Hicksville at 5:00. The Lady Sailors’ will put up a fight for a chance to play Massapequa again.
Head Coach of the Lady Sailors’ Coach Joseph Supple says that “The way we’ve been playing these past couple weeks is the best basketball we’ve played all season. I’m confident in these girls and I hope we can get another win on Friday.”
It’s easy to say that the aspirations the Oceanside Lady Sailors’ are high as they start off the playoffs tomorrow at 5 o’clock! Come and show your support!
