Marching Band Wins State Championship

RACHEL FINKELSTEIN

This past Saturday, our very own Sailor Marching Band competed in the State Championships and took first place. It comes as no surprise to our school, as we have seen their incredible abilities at football games and the pep rally. Their performance included three songs from “Pirates of the Caribbean.” The Marching Band brought out the excitement from the movie with their astounding execution of the music, formations, and flag work.

Color Guard Captain Miranda Rodriguez reveals, “A lot of hard work…went into that performance and all the performances that we’ve done.” The Marching Band has begun practicing prior to the beginning of the school year, which includes hours of practice after school each weekday with occasional weekend practices. This clearly was a well-deserved win.

The performance itself was rewarding to the band, as Joseph Prendergast, Drum Major, says, “It was a great experience.” The Marching Band had not won the State Championships in the past three years, so this for sure was a comeback. Drummer Nickolas Dimitrakas sums up the entire event in one word – “amazing.”

OHS congratulates the Marching Band on their tremendous win, and we wish them luck in their future competitions.

Thank you to Miranda Rodriguez, Joseph Prendergast, and Nickolas Dimitrakas for their contributions to this article.
