Anyone who has been paying attention to the news recently is aware of the many sexual allegation stories that’s surfacing against hugely popular celebrities. Actors, artists, and celebrities all across america have been reported for sexual assault, harassment, and even rape. Unfortunately, yet another story has been added to this list from someone whom many were surprised to hear about. Melanie Martinez, a pop singer who is known for her unique and punky style, has recently been reported by singer Timothy Heller for rape.
Heller and Martinez were very close friends in the past. They did everything together and considered each other best friends. After the incident that Heller reported, they grew apart and are now no longer friends as they used to be. The line was drawn when Martinez allegedly seduced her, and their friendship gradually disappeared.
Now that she has witnessed most of the world coming out with their stories against highly praised celebrities for sexual assault, Heller thought it was time to come out with hers. At first, she didn’t want to mention the name of who it was, but, after seeing the recent wave of women admitting their stories of harassment, assault, and persecution to the public, she felt as if it was finally time to come out with the full story.
She stated that Martinez pressured her to have sex and continued to persist even through Heller’s numerous attempts at refusal She insisted she had a boyfriend and repeatedly said no. Martinez, then, convinced her to smoke marijuana and proceeded to rape her.
Martinez’s only statement in defense was her notion that, “She never said no to what we chose to do together and although we parted ways, I am sending her love and light always.” She has since made no further comments on the issue.
Timothy Heller named Martinez as the abuser in this twitter post and urges others to speak out against sexual assault and rape. A major point that she is trying to get at is, “Girls can rape girls,” she wrote.” “Best friends can rape best friends.” The typical belief is that only men rape women, but it is important for us all to know that it can happen between anybody. Anyone, whether male, female, gay, or straight, can condone in rape or any form of sexual assault.
Another point Heller tries to make is that, unless one specifically states yes to an action, it is not consent. “First of all, I did say ‘no,’ multiple times,” she said, “But even if I hadn’t, that doesn’t mean I wanted it. She dug her own grave saying, ‘she didn’t say no’. That’s not consent.” When Martinez’s team was contacted for a comment, a representative said, “Melanie stands by her statement.” We have yet to hear anymore from Melanie Martinez regarding the allegation.
