This Senior Spotlight is about one of the most dedicated, compassionate, enthusiastic and accomplished people I know: Matthew Leicht. Whether you know Matt on a personal level or just from school, you are probably familiar with his many achievements. In addition to academic success in the National Honor Society, Matt is the Upper Delegate Chair of Oceanside Model Congress, a member of Thespian Honor Society, and a World Language Honor Society Student.
As Upper Delegate Chair of Oceanside Model Congress Matt plays an important role in writing songs for every Congress in hope of a win for Best Delegation. Matt has been a strong contributor in leading Oceanside’s delegation to victory at East Meadow Model Congress as well as New Rochelle Model Congress. Matt also contributes to making sure everyone is accounted for throughout trips, in addition to collecting emergency contacts and notes. There is no doubt that Matt is very committed to Model Congress. Throughout his four years of high school he has shaped the club into what it is today.
In addition to all of the important positions Matt holds, his peers recognize his talent by giving him the senior superlative of “Most Talented” alongside his best friend Demi Spirou. He proves this title accurate through his involvement in Thespian Troupe #132, where he partook in 15 productions, playing a principal role many times. Matt is a natural leader who excels at working with others when discussing artistic ideas and acting techniques. As Co-President of Set Painting of Oceanside High School’s theater productions the past two years, Matt works with others to create beautiful pieces of scenery. This past season he performed as Nicely-Nicely Johnson in OHS’s production of ‘Guys and Dolls’.
Matt will be studying physics at University of Delaware in the fall. Matt is undoubtedly a very talented individual who always fulfills his potential. He loves to work with others and encourage people to be the best they can be. I can confidently say Matt is an outstanding individual who is sure to succeed in the rest of his life.
