Unwrap The Holiday Music

‘Tis the season to break out old records and download the latest releases of all sorts of Christmas music. From the moment we clear the Thanksgiving decorations until you have to solemnly take down the dying Christmas tree, you can shamelessly blast these beloved tunes anywhere you go. We all know and love most of these songs, even though some of them can get on our nerves. But let’s be honest: if you’re alone and “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey comes on,  you’re not skipping it.

08-leslie-odom-jr-w529-h529Christmas music comes in all forms and genres. Your favorite famous artist is bound to release a Christmas album at some point. All Christmas music fanatics have multiple copies of Michael Bublé’s Christmas album. Favorite songs like ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ and ‘Cold December Night’ make you want to hold hands with a loved one while the snow falls in Rockefeller Center. But this year’s latest release could blow the beloved 2012 album out of the ice cold waters. Leslie Odom Jr. released the album ‘Simply Christmas’ in early November, covering 8 songs with heavy jazz tones. You might not recognize his name, but if you’ve heard any songs from the Broadway hit Hamilton, you will automatically recognize his voice. Odom Jr. plays the part of Aaron Burr in the musical. He already has a very large following, and his soft voice will keep you warm during the snowy weather.

For the past two years, one of the most famous acapella groups, ptx2013_photo_gal__photo_2046723869_md-1Pentatonix, has graced us with their five part harmony version of Christmas classics. They cover popular songs like ‘I’ll Be Home For Christmas’, along with softer religious songs like ‘Mary, Did You Know?’ All of these songs are available on Spotify along with many other holiday playlists. Also, one childhood favorite  can also be found on Spotify. You can access the entire Polar Express soundtrack for when you’re not able to watch it.

Christmas music fills hearts with wonder and the spirit of the season.
