Sailor Victory Sets up Battle of Undefeated Teams for Homecoming Weekend

by Matt Weininger

The Sailors looked very good this past week against Hempstead as they improved to 3-0 to start the season.. Even though the final score was close (34-20), Oceanside was in control throughout the entire game. Oceanside is now one of two remaining undefeated teams in their division (the other being Massapequa).

The Sailor offense exploded and put up the most points they have scored so far this season. Quarterback Charlie Mckee had his best passing game of the season going 23 for 27 for 327 yards and 5 touchdowns. All different aspects of the passing game were on display this week with 5 players (Richi Hosien, Logan Lyson, Ronnie Kraemer, Nick Ebel and Nickey Cairo) eclipsing 40 yards receiving. Wide receiver Richi Hosien had his second 100 yard game, as he continues to stand out as a new weapon for this exciting Sailors offense. Running back Nickey Cairo also scored two touchdowns and carried over his strong play from the previous week.

Oceanside’s defense once again got the job done. They were able to hold off Hempstead’s offense which started to make a comeback towards the end of the game. The highlight of the sailor’s defense was the pass defense. The secondary played well and kept the Hempstead offense largely in check. The Sailor victory sets up a battle of undefeated teams this Saturday as we take on Massapequa during homecoming weekend.
