OHS Signing Day

OHS Signing Day

by Ashlee Martinez

Here at Oceanside High School, we value our student-athletes, and we are so proud of those students who have put in the hard work, sweat, and tears to continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level. With the help of our Athletic Director, John Lehman and our Student Broadcasting team run by Audrey Miller, OHS put together a few days in late January to get our student-athletes honored for their success and allow them to sign their letters of intent in front of their coaches, friends, and family. I’m proud to say that I am one of the athletes committed to playing softball at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. This whole journey and the recruiting process was very time-consuming and stressful, so for Oceanside to put together an event like this made me feel special. It was a very fun experience to sign alongside my teammates Samantha Reyer and Skylar Lopiccolo. I can’t wait for our final ride on the softball diamond this spring and to bring home the championship this year!

My teammates, Skylar and Sami enjoyed the event also. Skylar said, “It’s crazy how far Sami, Ashlee, and I have come. It feels like it was just yesterday when we were 10 years old playing little league together. Now we are ready to move on to bigger things and I can’t express how proud I am of all of us. The signing day made me think of all the memories I made with these girls; it’s a day I’ll never forget.” Sami Reyer said of signing day, “Signing day a fun experience, the other student-athletes and I got recognized for all the hard work we’ve put in through the years. Having our families and coaches there who have supported us throughout this process made it really special.”

In addition to me, Sami, and Skylar, three other student athletes, Kevin Klein, Jada King, and Logan Hopper were also present that day to sign their letters of intent. Kevin Klein said, “Personally, I felt that signing day was one of the most joyful days I have had in my high school experience. It was a whole new feeling to have your hard work realized by your school and hometown. It really shows just how much Oceanside cares for their student-athletes and makes them feel as if their hard work was worth it. It really was a great experience and only made me more excited to begin my final season of baseball at Oceanside.” Jada added, “My experience was very nice and eye-opening – it made me realize it’s time to move on from high school and go unto bigger and better things in college! Participating in the signing day made me even more excited to get more opportunities in college with my running career!” Finally, Logan hopper said of the event, “College Signing Day was one of the highlights of my time at OHS. The best part of the day was seeing all the people who came to support me. I am so grateful to my family, coaches, and teammates who helped me achieve my dream of playing college volleyball. The friendships I made while playing volleyball are ones that I know will last a lifetime.”

Thanks you OHS for acknowledging all of the student athletes’ hard work and dedication!
