NHL All-Star Game

by Aleena Khan

As we approach the month of February, the 2024 NHL All Star Game approaches as well. On January 4th, the league announced the thirty-two players who will be participating in the game. One player from each team was selected by the league and fans voted on the rest of the players to fill out the rosters. The New York Rangers have Igor Shesterkin and Vincent Trochek to represent them in the game. Jack Hughes was chosen from the New Jersey Devils and Mat Barzal was chosen to represent the New York Islanders.

The night before the All Star Game is a time for players to show off their skills and compete in a skills competition in order to win $1 million in prizes. In round 1, the 6 skill categories that the players will be competing in include fastest skater, hardest shot, stick handling, one timers, passing accuracy, and shooting accuracy. The second round is a fan favorite which consists of players choosing a goalie to face in a shootout. The third and final round is a hockey obstacle course

Tickets are now available, and the game and events will take place in Scotiabank arena in Toronto from February 1st-3rd. Ticket prices start at $300 US on Ticketmaster. If you’re unable to make the trip to Toronto to attend the game, the all-star game draft will be on ESPN and the game itself will be aired on ESPN+ at 3 p.m. on February 3rd.. Good luck to the local players participating, and cheers to local hockey fans who are looking forward to watching their favorite players participate.
