The 96th Academy Awards were held on March 10th 2024, with Jimmy Kimmel as the host. The night was filled with many awards, surprises, and huge moments. Since 1929, the Oscars have been an annual awards show that recognizes excellence in cinematic achievements. Below are specific details regarding the winners on this special night.

To begin, one of the best reviewed movies of the year was Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was nominated for 13 awards and emerged as the night’s big winner, taking home seven Oscars, including Best Picture. Oppenheimer was directed by 53-year-old Christopher Nolan and was released this past summer on July 21st. The film racked up awards for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Score, and Best Director. Furthermore, it is undeniable that this movie was an absolute success and deserves all the fame, awards, and honors it received.

However, the Oscars also announced many other big individual awards that night. For example, the biggest individual achievements were in the categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Song, Best-Supporting Actor, and Best Director. Three of those categories were awarded to the film Oppenheimer: The award for Best Director was won by Christopher Nolan, the award for Best Supporting Actor was won by Robert Downey Jr., and the award for Best Actor was won by Cillian Murphy.
