As this year comes to an end, sports fans around the world look at the most unforgettable and intense moments that mesmerized them throughout the year. From record-breaking efforts to unbelievable comebacks, the sports world never fails to entertain its fans. Here are the top sports moments from 2024 that made this sports’ year one to remember. 

Starting off strong, the 2024 Paris Olympics captivated audiences around the globe, averaging around 30.4 million viewers per event. With 206 countries represented and 329 medal events, this sports display was truly one to remember. Fans received a thrilling USA basketball run, featuring stars LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant as they teamed up to win the gold. In addition, the very impressive USA track and field team also delivered a total of 34 medals over the 11 day competitions. From start to finish, the Olympics provided constant entertainment and excitement for its fans. 

  

The Super Bowl unites the country every year, and Super Bowl LVIII was definitely a game to remember. The Kansas City Chiefs came out on top once again in a thrilling overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers. With 123.4 million viewers tuning in across the country, the game delivered while keeping fans on the edge of their seats. This win propelled a bigger conversation: Are the Chiefs building a dynasty? Winning back-to-back Super Bowl’s and having star quarterback Patrick Mahomes surely begs this question. 

Throughout the year, college basketball found itself consistently ranked among the top sporting events, with both women’s and men’s championships bringing in almost 20 million viewers. One name that has dominated the basketball news nationwide is Caitlin Clark, whose record-breaking performances in both college and the WNBA have greatly influenced viewership and brought new eyes to the game of women’s basketball. On the men’s side, March Madness delivered with the Uconn Huskies winning their second straight championship, solidifying their dominance as an NCAA powerhouse. 

As autumn set in, the World Series drew attention from about 30 million people, making it the highest viewership in nearly a decade. With two of the largest fan bases and a projected electrifying battle, the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees faced off in pursuit of accomplishing their season-long goal of winning the World Series. Both teams gave their cities something to cheer about, but in the end, the Dodgers came out on top. The 2024 MLB playoffs was not only exciting for longtime fans but also captivated new fans, making this postseason especially unforgettable. 

Reflecting on 2024, it’s clear that it was packed with memorable sports moments that entertained fans around the world. From brilliant performances on the brightest of stages to record breaking efforts sending shockwaves around the country, all these events remind us why we love and appreciate sports so much.
