As Christmas quickly approaches, we surround ourselves with the sounds of the season. Here’s my list of the best songs to listen to during this time of year.

“The Christmas Song,” written and recorded in 1946 by Nat King Cole, is one of the most classic Christmas songs played today. Its iconic lyrics include “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jackfrost nipping at your nose.” The Christmas song is one of the most listened to and streamed Christmas songs ever.

“Last Christmas,” recorded in December 1984 by Wham!, is one of the most popular Christmas songs of all time. Last year, it was the most streamed Christmas song of 2023. Some fun facts about this song are that it is not a Christmas song or was not meant to be a Christmas song. The original meaning of this song was about heartbreak. The relationship started on Christmas day and is about the heartbreak of the next day. Even though its lyrics are not Christmas-related, It is still one of the most iconic Christmas songs to ever be released

“Sleigh Ride” was recorded in 1963 by the Ronnettes. This upbeat song was originally written in 1946 by Leroy Andersson and, over the years, has evolved into a holiday favorite. The most iconic version of the song is the Ronnettes cover from 1963.

“All I Want for Christmas is You”, written by Mariah Carey is one of the most iconic Christmas songs to ever be recorded. Originally released in 1994, this upbeat, fun song is on the radio every single day during Christmas time. On its 25th anniversary, the song made it to #1 on the charts, then two years later it reached #1 on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time holiday songs.

“Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” recorded by Brenda Lee is super iconic. This song was used in the film “Home Alone” which caused it to become so popular because of how popular the movie was. This song also set the record for the longest period of time between an original release and its topping the Top 100 – 65 Years.

“It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” was written and recorded by Andy Williams. This song was released in October of 1963 and is still one of the most-played songs on the radio today. It became popular just by being on the radio every holiday season.. THe song is also featured in some movies, for example, the Christmas Seals , and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.
