With the thrill of last season still lingering, it’s time to dive into the upcoming MLB season and all it has in store for fans around the world. With headlining player moves shaking up New York, the spotlight is bright on the Yankees and Mets as they look to rise to the occasion and  respond to the hype.

After a tough World Series loss, Yankees fans were on edge, awaiting news on where their new star, Juan Soto, would land. Soto had an extraordinary season with the Yankees, hitting .288 with 41 home runs and 109 RBI’s. Despite the excitement around his performance, fans were disappointed to hear that the young slugger had decided to sign with their cross-town rivals, the Mets. Determined to fill the gap, the Yankees clubhouse quickly went to work, signing free agents Cody Bellinger, Max Fried, Devin Williams, and Paul Goldschmidt. While the Yankees’ starting pitching appeared to be a major strength, disappointment followed as fans were told that their ace Gerrit Cole would be out for the rest of the year, along with reigning AL Rookie of the Year, Luis Gil, was also sidelined for at least three months with an injury. Despite the ups and downs throughout the offseason, fans remain optimistic about the upcoming season.

After an impressive playoff run in 2024, the New York Mets look to solidify their place among the National League with powerhouses like the Dodgers and Phillies. While the Juan Soto signing was heartbreaking for one side of town, it was a dream come true for Mets fans. Soto joined the Mets on a record breaking 15-year, $765 million deal, and as Opening Day approaches, he’s eager to succeed for his new club. Although both New York teams are being hit with challenges- both the Yankees and Mets are facing injuries concerning their starting rotations. With pitchers Paul Blackburn and Frankie Montas on the injured list, former Yankee closer Clay Holmes took the mound for the Mets on Opening Day.  The Mets and their fans are hopeful that the team can make a long playoff run like they did last season.

The 2025 MLB season promises to intrigue and excite fans throughout all 162 games, especially in the Big Apple. Both the Yankees and Mets enter the season facing challenges and captivate their fans with star filled rosters. From potential game changing moves at the trade deadline to navigating through injuries, these two New York teams are set to entertain. As Opening Day draws closer, fans are united together by their passion and hope for their teams and eagerly awaiting the unforgettable moments to come.
