On Tuesday, November 4th, the off-year elections happened across America. These elections included Local Nassau County elections, New Jersey and Virginia Governor races, along with a plethora of Mayoral elections which included the headlining New York City mayoral election. Here’s a quick recap of the major elections.

Starting with Local Elections, it was a clean sweep for the Republican party for Town Supervisor, County Executive, District Attorney and County Comptroller. Bruce Blakeman beat out Seth Koslow for County Executive, while Anne Donnoly beat out Nicole Aloise and Elaine Phillips beat out Wayne Wink Jr. for County Executive, District Attorney and County Comptroller respectively. They each won by around 10+. John Ferretti beat out Joe Scianablo by 7+.

New Jersey and Virginia both had their off-season gubernatorial elections, with projections for a tight race in Jersey with Democrat Mikie Sherrill leading by just a couple points over Republican Jack Ciattarelli. In Virginia it was much less contentious of a race with Democrat Abigail Spanberger with a commanding lead over Republican Winsome Earle-Sears. In the end both Sherrill and Spanberger won with 14+ and 15+ respectively.

Finally many Mayoral elections were held for 27 of the top 100 cities in America. Here’s a rapidfire of 26 of them: Albuquerque – Tim Keller (Dem), Atlanta – Andre Dickens (Dem), Boston – Michelle Wu (Dem), Buffalo –  Sean Ryan (Dem), Cincinnati – Aftab Pureval (Dem), Charlotte – VI Lyles (Dem), Cleveland – Justin Bibb (Dem), Detroit – Mary Sheffield (Dem), Durham – Leonardo Williams (Dem), Fort Worth – Mattie Parker (Rep), Garland – Dylan Hedrick (Ind), Greensboro – Marikay Abuzuaiter (Dem), Hialeah – Bryan Calvo (Ind), Jersey City – Undecided, Miami – Undecided, Minneapolis – Jacob Frey (Dem), New Orleans – Helena Moreno (Dem), Oakland – Barbara Lee (Dem), Omaha – John Ewing (Dem), Pittsburgh – Corey O’Connor (Dem), Plano – John Muns (Rep), St. Louis – Cara Spencer (Dem), Saint Paul – Kaohly Her (Dem), San Antonio – Gina Ortiz (Dem), Seattle – Undecided (Dem), Toledo – Wade Kapszukiewicz (Dem).

The Final Mayoral race was the headline race of the 2025 elections. In NYC the race was a three-headed one frontlined by Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, going against a Republican perennial candidate in Curtis Sliwa and Democratic Primary hopeful Andrew Cuomo. In the tight race which defined the future of the city, Zohran received 50.4% of the popular vote, a 9+ lead over 41.6% Andrew Cuomo while Sliwa received 7% of the vote.

Overall, the national elections show a shift towards the Democratic party that has ended up different than the 2024 election results. As Midterm season approaches, time will tell the implications of these results.
