Six Films to Cozy Up To

Six Films to Cozy Up To

by Julia Hershkowitz

Well, it may be sixteen degrees outside and you can no longer see vibrant leaves on the trees, but that just means that it’s time to cozy up and watch some soul-altering, tear-jerking, laugh-out-loud films. Here are six films to cozy up to this winter.

The Silver Linings Playbook

This movie reminds me of an A24 movie. It has that realness and very few cliches. If you’ve been feeling like you’re out of your mind, this movie is like chicken soup for your soul. You’ll laugh and understand the hardness of being human through the main characters played by Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, who both nail the authenticity of their characters. This movie doesn’t sugar coat life and is a joy to watch.

Almost Famous

Where do I even begin? This movie is awesome. It has the best soundtrack I’ve ever heard. Do you just wish you could live in the time of crawling into your best friend’s window, and vinyl, the most epic house parties, where there was this charisma with everyone and the adolescents were wild. Find yourself with William, who aspires to be a great writer for the love of music. Join the wild ride of touring with the band, and sing songs as you’re on the road. It’s bittersweet, and charming. Watch Almost famous by yourself, or with an old soul this winter.

Superbad

This is the funniest movie you will ever watch. No exaggeration. It’s classic, hysterical lines will leave you rolling on the floor. My favorite time of the year to watch this is on a hot summer night with a bunch of friends. But if you watch it with a few funny friends cozied up near a fire place with some popcorn, that might just do.

Fantastic Mr.Fox

This is one of those movies you wish you could watch for the first time again. The realness and relatability of the characters and the warm colors of the claymation are amazing. The plot keeps you engaged, as does the charisma of Fantastic Mr. Fox. Wes Anderson is an awesome director for creating unhinged yet brilliant indie films.

Eternity

Who would you choose to spend eternity with? You can’t change your choice. Is it your first love or the guy who’s been by your side for many years and started a family with? Cozy up with someone to debate this with and enjoy this dark comedy starring Miles Teller, Callum Turner and Elizabeth Olsen.

Little Women

Jo, an ambitious writer, wants to break free from what everyone tells her she must do: get married. She writes a great story about her sisterhood and the struggles they faced as women in the late 1800s.
