Oceanside Sails Past Freeport Into The Playoffs

BY MATTHEW WEININGER

Oceanside demolished Freeport with a 48-16 victory, a game which saw the offense score their new high this season in points. The key was Charlie Mckee’s rushing game which he ran for 164 yards and 4 touchdowns. While this is already impressive he also did very well in the passing game throwing for 112 yards and another touchdown to Logan Lyson. Running backs Logan Kiowalski and Nickey Cairo both shared the rest of the load of runs combining for over 170 yards. Besides a few hiccups with the run the Sailors defense played another great game to keep Freeport in check. The Sailors defense wrapped up the regular season keeping opponents to 20 points or lower in 6 of the 8 games.

Oceanside’s first playoff game is this Friday at home against East Meadow. The sailors had previously defeated East Meadow this season 37-14 in a week 7 matchup. The Jets are ranked 7th with a 4-4 record and can be dangerous if not taken seriously as they have put up multiple 25 point plus games. The strongest aspect of the Jets play is their run game which can be effective to get those 15-30 yard plays when they need it most.

The Sailors have shown how they can beat East Meadow and they seem to be able to do it pretty easily. Oceanside will most likely hope to utilize all aspects of their offense which has been doing fantastic going into the playoffs. We can expect to see Charlie Mckee run a lot too which he has been doing for the last couple of weeks. All throughout the year the run game has been top notch for the sailors so it shouldn’t be surprising if we see multiple backs get some big yards. The defense has also been rolling into the playoffs putting up some impressive showings in their past few weeks with 16 the highest score for an opponent in the past 4 weeks. Oceanside should be excited to have their first playoff game in almost 2 years at home with full capacity. The stands should be rocking and it will be an exciting game to watch.
