The Results of the 2024 Election Day are in, and here is a recap of what happened:
On Wednesday, 11/7, it was announced that Donald Trump would be the next president of the United States. Donald Trump is the 47th President in U.S. history. He is also one of the only presidents to win and lose a race and still serve two terms. This election was predicted to be one of the closest races in history, but the results were not very close. Donald Trump garnered 317 electoral votes while Kamala Harris only secured 226 electoral votes. With these numbers, the election turned out to be a landslide. Trump won all of the swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia giving the Republican party a resounding presidential victory.
This is the map of who won each state and the corresponding electoral votes. Safe states like New York, California, and Texas all voted for their projected parties. Swing states like Pennsylvania and Georgia greatly influenced this year’s race. Late on election day, Pennsylvania called for their state to be red (Republican) – a decisive moment in the election. Georgia was also secured by Trump, as he dominated all of the swing state votes.
The Republicans also took control of the Senate on Election Day. The Republicans flipped four Senate seats and took a decisive 53-47 edge in the Senate. The results for the House of Representatives are still being counted, but if the Republican Party takes full control over both houses, it gives them a position of unchecked power. As of today, the Republicans lead the House vote 214-205, needing only four more seats to secure the House of Representatives.
