Coloring Books Aren’t Just for Kids Anymore

Coloring Books Aren’t Just for Kids Anymore

Have you ever been stressed out about a test, a school assignment, or just life in general? There are, of course, many ways to deal with stress, but have you ever tried coloring?

Over the years, there have been countless studies on the benefits of adult coloring books and its positive effects on mental health. Even if it’s for only 5-10 minutes, the benefits of coloring are incredible. I personally believe that the more intricate the drawing being colored, the more it helps me focus, but basic coloring can be relaxing as well.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Coloring is a healthy way to relieve stress. It calms the brain and helps your body relax. This can improve sleep and fatigue while decreasing body aches, heart rate, respiration, and feelings of depression and anxiety.” Even if you aren’t stressed out, coloring is still a great (and relaxing) way to pass the time. I know that before I have an event that I’m anxiously awaiting, coloring makes the day go by much faster while also elevating my mood.

If you’re interested, here are some links to adult coloring books. Also, FYI, I find it best to color with markers instead of crayons.

You can also color on your phone. I use several apps including Happy Color Art and Coloring Book for Adults. Although I prefer to color on good old-fashioned paper, the apps will do. So, the next time you’re feeling stressed, try coloring – it really does help!
